FSIN officials deny AI's statement about denial of medical care to prisoner in Nalchik

Aimur Khakulov, who is being kept at SIZO No. 1 (pre-trial prison) in Nalchik till the consideration of the appeal against his verdict in the case of the attack on Nalchik, receives all the necessary medical treatment. This was reported by the Acting Assistant on Human Rights to the Chief of the Department for Kabardino-Balkaria of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 25, the human rights organization "Amnesty International" (AI) announced that Amur Khakulov suffered from chronic kidney disease and did not receive the necessary medical treatment.

According to Zalina Kuvazhukova, the Acting Assistant on Human Rights to the Chief of the FSIN Department for Kabardino-Balkaria, today, she has visited the SIZO No. 1 at request of the Kabardino-Balkarian Ombudsman, who was addressed by the wife of Amur Khakulov.

"I talked to the head of the medical unit of the SIZO. At present, convict Amur Khakulov receives the necessary medical treatment. He did not suffer from an attack of kidney disease," Zalina Kuvazhukova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the FSIN official, she wanted to talk to Amur Khakulov himself; however, he was not at the SIZO, since he was "taken to the court for review of the materials of the criminal case."
