Tver Court of Moscow dismisses complaint filed by HRC "Memorial" about fines
Today, the Tver Court of Moscow has recognized the legitimacy of two fines, each for the amount of 300,000 roubles, imposed by the magistrate judge on the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" for violating the law on foreign agents.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 4, the Magistrate Court of the Tver District Court of Moscow found that the HRC "Memorial" violated the law by publishing a material without indication that the organization had been recognized as a foreign agent. The organization was fined 600,000 roubles.
"It all started with the fact that someone else's material was attributed to the HRC 'Memorial' with the note that those materials were not marked with an appropriate label," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Alexander Cherkasov, Chairman of the Board of the HRC "Memorial".
"Today, the judge of the Tver Court of Moscow has confirmed the judgment at the court of second instance. Our lawyer Kirill Koroteev tried to find out the motives for the judge's decision. It turned out that apart from the Administrative Code, no other rules of law were in question. This is such an ingenuous case of law enforcement, and, meanwhile, this is the case of arbitrary law enforcement in the literal sense," Alexander Cherkasov has said.
