Nalchik residents pay tribute to memory of 11-year-old Syrian Circassian

Today, at the monument "Tree of Life" in Nalchik, city residents have held an action to pay tribute to the memory of Judy Maf, an 11-year-old Circassian girl, killed in Syria. The participants of the action have stated that the Russian authorities should pay attention to the problems of Syrian Circassians.

According to the organizers of the action, the event was attended by 15 persons. The participants of the action brought flowers and a small sculpture of an angel to the monument "Tree of Life".

"Judy Maf was killed on September 26. Before the war, the girl with her parents lived in the Adyg village of Marj al-Sultan. Then, since the village was captured, they moved to the suburbs of Damascus. She with her mother was traveling home in a taxi, and while they were on the motor road, a sniper bullet hit her in the head," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Yali Kat, a repatriate from Syria, living in Nalchik.

"Our today's action is a cry for help, since if Circassians are not repatriated, they will die," Yali Kat has added.

Meanwhile, the petition website Change.org continues to collect signatures under the appeal to the Russian President and the Chief of the Federal Migration Service (FMS) with a request to open the border for Circassian refugees from Syria and to help them return to their historic homeland. According to the author of the appeal, "being the legal successor of the Russian Empire, Russia is responsible for the consequences of this war, and it is time to correct the mistakes of the past and open the border for the Circassian refugees from Syria."
