Nine persons detained on suspicion of arms trafficking in Karachay-Cherkessia

In Karachay-Cherkessia, law enforcers detained nine residents of the republic and of the Stavropol Territory and seized dozens of their pistols, submachine guns, and more than 100 rounds of ammunition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports.

The operation was conducted by staff members of the MIA and the FSB Department for Karachay-Cherkessia. According to them, the suspects were engaged in selling weapons and ammunition to members of criminal groupings in Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, and the Stavropol Territory.

During the preparation of the operation, the Karachay-Cherkessian law enforcers carried out a series of control purchases from the suspects, the website of the Regional MIA reports.

Besides, field investigators have destroyed a workshop for repairing and manufacturing of weapons, which was discovered at the place of residence of a member of the criminal grouping.

The investigating authorities of Karachay-Cherkessia instituted 13 criminal cases under Article "Arms trafficking, committed by a group of persons by prior agreement."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in May 2015, two residents of Karachay-Cherkessia were found guilty of an attempt of arms trafficking and sentenced to two and three years of imprisonment, respectively.
