Court postpones trial in Nadezhda Savchenko's case to September 29

The Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region has pronounced a break in the trial in the case against Nadezhda Savchenko until September 29. On that day, the Court is to question the very defendant and witnesses.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the Donetsk City Court started the consideration on the merits of the case against Nadezhda Savchenko. The trial takes place under enhanced security measures. Journalists are not allowed to enter the courtroom, and they watch the trial via video communication channels. The defense of Nadezhda Savchenko asked the Court to return the case to the Prosecutor's Office; however, the motion was dismissed.

Nadezhda Savchenko is charged with involvement in the murder of two employees of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (known as VGTRK) not far from Lugansk and illegal border crossing. The defence insists on her innocence. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has included Nadezhda Savchenko in the list of persons recognized as political prisoners.

On September 29, the Prosecutor's Office will continue to present its evidence in the case against Nadezhda Savchenko. The Court has pronounced to hold 12 court sessions in the case in October, the "Interfax" reports.

According to advocate Mark Feighin, the verdict may be pronounced in November, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

Let us add here that at the today's court session, Nadezhda Savchenko did not admit the charges against her. She has also noted that she is ready for questioning on lie detector.
