In Akhtubinsk, five persons go on hunger strike with demand to pay their wages

Workers of the municipal enterprise (MP) "Akhtuba ATP" (auto transport company) do not receive their wages for more than a year, and they were also deprived of their dismissal compensation. The workers began a hunger strike at the public reception room of a deputy of the Duma for the Astrakhan Region.

30 persons planned to take part in the hunger strike. The meeting of the ATP workers was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Moscow time, and organizers sent written invitations to officials of the Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the city administration, and the company's managers. At the appointed time, the participants of the protest action were not allowed to enter the territory of the ATP (auto transport company); top-managers of the company and officials from the Prosecutor's Office did not come to the meeting, and only a MIA's official came. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Alexander Kamanin, a deputy of the Duma for the Astrakhan Region.

According to Alexander Kamanin, the protestors intended to start their hunger strike in the territory of the ATP at 5:00 p.m.; however, they were not allowed to enter it. The participants of the protest action waited at the gate of the ATP till 5:00 p.m. However, they failed to meet the top-managers of the ATP and moved into the public reception room of the Duma deputy. "People came to us and explained the situation. We support them, so we allowed them to start their protest action at our reception room. The room is only 18 square meters, so it was decided that the hunger strike would be started by five persons," said Alexander Kamanin.
