In Derbent, festivities held under enhanced security measures

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, Derbent celebrates its 2000th anniversary, and the festivities will be held at various venues in the city. The large-scale preparation for the festival takes several months.
The city has enhanced security measures. Police squads are on duty at each intersection. All the parked cars were evacuated from the main streets, and the traffic in the city consists only of passenger cars and trucks with special permits. All shopping facilities not related to food sale are closed.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that organizers planned to hold the main festivities in honour of the 2000th anniversary of Derbent on September 15; however, the date of the main events of the anniversary was postponed to September 19. The preparations for the celebration took several months. Sergey Melikov, the Russian presidential envoy to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), has stated that this year, only festivities within the city should be held, and a number of tasks for changing the Derbent's image scheduled for the anniversary should be postponed.
