Residents of Gunib District of Dagestan report accumulation of military vehicles and power agents

Despite the accumulation of power agents and military vehicles in the Gunib District, where a regime of counterterrorist operation (CTO) was introduced, no shooting is heard, local residents report. They believe that the actions of the power agents are connected with the murder of an engineer of the "Sogratl" agricultural company.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 20, Magomedgadji Zaidov, the Chief Engineer of the "Sogratl" agricultural company, was killed in the village of Nakazukh of the Gunib District. Three armed men locked his wife inside the house, took him to the edge of the forest and shot and killed him there. Earlier, a staff member of the Untsukul ROVD (District Interior Division) has reported that members of the armed underground are wanted on suspicion of involvement in the killing. At 6:30 a.m. on September 15, the CTO regime was introduced in the Gunib District.

"The police know who have killed Magomedgadji Zaidov. People say the killers are the local residents, the young guys who ... have become militants. The CTO regime is apparently introduced to search for them," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by P. Abdullaeva, a resident of a village in the Gunib District of Dagestan.

Another local resident, who introduced himself as Murad, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about a large concentration of power agents and military vehicles in the Gunib District.

"People say they were combing the forest for the whole day. They were looking for militants, who killed the farmer. These actions take place behind the regional centre, closer to Sogratl... People say the military men check houses and yards even in Gunib; they check vehicles, and they have also arranged additional checkpoints in the district. However, in general, the situation is quite calm, and no one opens fire," the local resident said.
