Court leaves Nadezhda Savchenko under arrest
The Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region has granted the motion filed by the Prosecutor's Office and left Nadezhda Savchenko in custody for six months. This was reported by her advocate Mark Feigin.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ukrainian aviator Nadezhda Savchenko is charged with involvement in the killing of two employees of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (known as VGTRK) near Lugansk and illegal border crossing. The defence insists on her innocence.
Ukrainian citizen Nadezhda Savchenko is listed among persons recognized by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" as political prisoners.
Today, the Donetsk City Court has held a preliminary hearing in the case against Nadezhda Savchenko behind closed doors and under reinforced security measures.
"Savchenko is left in custody," reported Mark Feigin, the advocate of Nadezhda Savchenko, in his Twitter account.
"The defence insists on changing the measure of pre-trial restriction to any form, including consular guarantees, not related to detention in custody," the advocate has emphasized. He has also explained that the defence referred to the fact that Nadezhda Savchenko had the status of a PACE delegate, providing immunity.
