On September 7-13, at least two persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of September 7-13, 2015, at least two persons were killed in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. No wounded were reported. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes a suspected member of illegal armed formations (IAFs) and a civilian. Both were killed in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

In the evening of September 7, in the Buynaksk District of Dagestan, while patrolling in the area of the abandoned agricultural farm "Gayvanli" at the 18th kilometre of the road Makhachkala-Buynaksk, a police squad noticed a man with a backpack. The policemen wanted to check his ID; however, when he saw them approaching him, the man began to run away and then opened fire from a firearm. The policemen killed the attacker by return fire. The law enforcers have revealed that the killed man was an active member of the "Makhachkala" militant grouping. However, he has not been identified yet.

Special and counterterrorist operations

At 5:00 a.m. Moscow time on September 11, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced in the territory between the villages of Batayurt, Novy Kurush, and Sadovoe in connection with the investigation into the case of the murder of Magomed Khidirov, Imam of the mosque of the village of Novy Kurush. During the CTO regime, law enforcers carried out mass inspections of documents and imposed traffic restrictions in the Dagestani village of Novy Kurush. Besides, search activities were underway in a forest area. At 6:00 p.m. Moscow time, the CTO regime in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan was abolished.

Attacks on civilians

At 7:00 p.m. on September 9, Imam Magomed Khidirov was shot dead in front of the local mosque in the village of Novy Kurush of the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan. He was killed by shots from a firearm, when he left the mosque after the morning prayers. According to investigators, two men in masks shot and killed Magomed Khidirov when he was on his way to the morning prayer. Magomed Khidirov died at the place, and the gunmen fled the scene. Valid Motsaev, the new leader of Khasavyurt militants, suspected of involvement in the murder of Imam Magomed Khidirov.
