Experts not surprised at election outcome of Buynaksk Mayor

The city administration of Buynaksk declares that the election of the City Mayor was held in accordance with the law. The fact that the Mayor was elected by deputies of the old convocation may perplex, although the election results were predictable. This was stated by Absalitdin Murzaev, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Kumyk people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 6, Gusein Gamzatov, the head of Buynaksk, vacated the office earlier as expected, and then, the competition for the position of Mayor was announced. Gusein Gamzatov was elected at the extraordinary session of the City Assembly held on September 8.

On September 4, residents of Buynaksk held a rally in front of the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan in Makhachkala. They have demanded to reschedule the election of the Buynaksk Mayor from September 8 for a later date, after September 13, when deputies of the District Assembly are elected. On August 25, members of the "Party of Veterans of Russia" held a rally in Buynaksk demanding to change the city leaders and declaring unsolved communal problems, problems of corruption and terrorist threats.

Absalitdin Murzaev, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Kumyk people, has stated that it is nonsense to elect the City Mayor by the old convocation of the deputies. According to Absalitdin Murzaev, the residents of Buynaksk are indignant about the fact that they are deprived of their right to choose the Mayor of their own city.

In terms of the law, there are no violations in the fact that the City Mayor was elected by the old convocation of the deputies of the City Assembly. This opinion was expressed by Magomed Magomedov, an observer of the Dagestani newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft).

According to Magomed Magomedov, the residents of Buynaksk are indifferent to municipal policy, since there is the public opinion that "northing depends on people." Thus, it is difficult to say whether the city residents will hold any protest actions after the election.
