Kadyrov's lawyers appeal against court decision to recognize Koran quotes as extremist

Legal representatives of Ramzan Kadyrov have challenged the decision of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court, which had treated the Islamic book with ayats (verses) from Koran as extremist. The lawyers find the above decision as contradicting to the Russian legislation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 19 the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court found book "Prayer (Dua) to Allah, Its Meaning and Place in Islam", which consists of translations of Koran ayats and sayings attributed to Prophet Muhammad, to be an extremist material. On September 9, the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov stated that he would demand to recognize the above court decision as having extremist character and aimed at undermining stability in Russia.

Said-Magomed Chapanov, the Managing Partner of the Law Firm No. 1" Chapanov and Partners", which will act at the court in favour of Kadyrov as an individual, has noted that the above court decision violated Article 28 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation on the freedom of conscience and religion.

Similar complaints against the court decision in question will be lodged by members of the Muslim community of the region and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Asian part of Russia, as Ravil Tugushev, a lawyer from Saratov has confirmed.

In the opinion of Alexei Malashenko, an Islamic scholar and a member of the Scientific Board of the Moscow Carnegie Centre, religious texts are examined in Russia by unqualified specialists.

Visit Tsoroev, the head of the Ingush regional branch of the political party "National Security of Russia", believes that "the outcomes of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk 'justice' go beyond all limits, not only of the legal field, but also of ethical and moral standards."
