Resident of Chechnya found guilty of killing soldiers

The Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has sentenced a local resident, whom the jurors found guilty of killing three soldiers, to 16 years of imprisonment.

The SC found that by prior agreement with his three accomplices, Salambek Bachaev had committed the murder of three soldiers and stolen their submachine gun, machine gun, grenade launcher, and ammunition. According to the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya, the criminals buried the bodies of the killed soldiers and hid the weapons.

Taking into account the position of the public prosecutor, the SC has sentenced Salambek Bachaev to 16 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony, the website of the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya reports.

It should be noted that, according to the Chechen Prosecutor's Office, in 2002, two accomplices of the defendant were sentenced to 22 and 15 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony, respectively. One more accomplice was put on the federal wanted list.
