Court finds five Azerbaijani citizens guilty of involvement in IS

Elshan Gurbanly, Kyamran Azizov, Tural Mamedov Nadir Alikhanov and Bakhruz Rasulov have been sentenced to terms ranging from 12 to 14.5 years in prison on charges of involvement in warfare in the territory of Syria for the militants of the "Islamic State" (IS).

The case of the five defendants was considered by the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. They were found guilty of involvement in the banned armed groupings and extremists, writes the "Interfax-Azerbaijan".

Gurbanly, Azizov and Mamedov were sentenced to 14.5 years in prison, Alikhanov – 13 years and Rasulov – 12 years, the "1News.az" reports.

The "Islamic State" (recognized in many countries, including Russia, as a terrorist organization, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") shows itself as a project, promising for young radical Muslims, said the experts, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot". Young people are attracted by the idea to live in a Sharia state and promises of social justice and romance, said the participants of the on-line discussion on the "Caucasian Knot", dedicated to the influence of the IS on the situation in Northern Caucasus.
