Residents of Novy Khushet report ceasefire in their village
This morning and afternoon, power agents did not carry out any active operations in the village of Novy Khushet, local residents report. However, the people "have a feeling of tension and fear," notes Sharapudin Magomedov, the chairman of the public council of the village.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 23, a special operation was started in the Lenin District of the capital of Dagestan, and three persons were killed near the village of Novy Khushet. An OMON (riot police) fighter was also wounded in the course of the special operation. In the afternoon of August 24, local residents heard shooting in the village.
As a result of the special operation, Abdul Kurbanov, the leader of the local militants, and his subordinates Magomed Ibragimov and Magomed Abdulkhaliev were killed, a source in the law enforcement bodies reports. According to the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), Abdul Kurbanov was involved in the assassination of the district police inspector of the village of Novy Khushet committed on August 17, the murder of two OMON fighters, and in the killing of a 14-year-old son of one of them committed on August 21.
According to the chairman of the village public council, today, the Public Chamber of Dagestan has held a "roundtable", and residents of Novy Khushet affected by the power agents' actions were also invited to join the discussion.
Ruslan Rasulov, Deputy Chairman of the Public Monitoring Commission of Dagestan (PMC), has explained that during the "roundtable", participants discussed the issue of "the illegal methods of investigation" and "the problem of refusing PMC employees to visit temporary detention facilities and SIZOs (pre-trial prisons)."
