Khizri Shikhsaidov's resignation remains open

Despite the fact that Khizri Shikhsaidov, the Speaker of the People's Assembly, has returned to his duties, the rumours of his impending resignation cannot be considered completely dispelled. Khizri Shikhsaidov is involved in the clan fight in Dagestan, and his resignation will be a blow to the politicians close to him. This opinion was expressed by experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 17, one of the information resources affiliated with the power bodies, announced the voluntary resignation of Khizri Shikhsaidov. The official website of the National People's Assembly of Dagestan has published an official contradiction stating that Khizri Shikhsaidov "is on regular leave."

On August 24, Khizri Shikhsaidov attended a working meeting with Dagestani leader Ramazan Abdulatipov, the information-analytical department of the People's Assembly of Dagestan reports.

According to Mairbek Agaev, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), the fact that Khizri Shikhsaidov has returned from his leave does not mean that the question of his resignation is closed. Khizri Shikhsaidov may remain at the post of the Speaker for a year, until the next elections to the People's Assembly of Dagestan will take place in September 2016, Mairbek Agaev notes.

Mairbek Agaev believes that the coming days will clarify the situation, since the continuation of the political career of Khizri Shikhsaidov impacts not only on his own future, but also the future of "many people close to him."

The current situation can be considered as another round of the fight between the clans. This opinion was expressed by Enver Kisriev, the head of the Caucasus Sector of the Centre for Regional and Civilizational Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
