Islam Muradov was leader of IS unit in Dagestan

In December 2014, Islam Muradov, the leader of the militant grouping in Khasavyurt, swore allegiance to the leader of the "Islamic State", recognized as a terrorist organization. In April 2014, power agents reported on the killing of Islam Muradov; however, then he managed to escape.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 24, a man was killed during a shootout which occurred between the villages of Mutsalaul and Genzheaul. According to the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the killed man has been preliminary identified as Islam Muradov, an active member of the "Khasavyurt" militant grouping.

Today, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has confirmed the information on identification of Islam Muradov. Born in 1985, Islam Muradov was on the federal wanted list on suspicion of attempts on lives of power agents, leadership of an illegal armed formation (IAF), killings, calling for terrorism, extortion of money from entrepreneurs, and other serious crimes, the website of the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the ICRF reports.

For power agents, Islam Muradov was well-known by the nickname of Freestyler for his successful attempts to escape from persecution. In particular, he managed to escape from the house cordoned off by power agents on April 24, 2014. Then, Islam Muradov was mentioned as one of four persons killed in the special operation. Milana Akhmedgadjieva, the wife of Islam Muradov, was killed in the same special operation.
