Armenian policeman removed for slapping pensioner
The powers of the policeman, who gave a slap to an elderly demonstrator, have been suspended for the time of the official investigation.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 21 a rally was held in Yerevan against the increase of electricity tariff, which turned into demonstrators' clashes with the police and detentions. Akop Nazaryan, a pensioner, has accused the above policeman that during the action the latter had slapped him and broken his hearing aid. The initiative group of activists "No to robbery!" has demanded to punish the policeman.
Ashot Agaronyan, the head of the information department of the Armenian Police, has reported that after the incident withy the pensioner, a service check was initiated in relation to Senior Lieutenant Vardgesyan. According to Agaronyan, for the period of investigation, Vardgesyan has been removed from service, the "News.am" writes.
