Residents of Untsukul District report shooting near Gimry

Power agents continue the active phase of a large-scale special operation in the Dagestani Untsukul District; since morning shooting could be heard near the village of Gimry. According to the police, law enforcers pursue militants in the area of the counterterrorist operation (CTO).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the CTO regime is in force in the Untsukul District since August 10. On August 11, the NAC announced that four militants had been killed and a special agent had been wounded. According to the NAC, the death toll included Magomed Suleimanov, who since April 2015 was the leader of "Imarat Kavkaz", which was recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia.

After the start of the CTO, the Gimry Tunnel was closed; unofficially, it was opened on August 13. According to locals, it was made for the relocation of power agents.

The active phase of the CTO is on since morning in the area of confluence of the Avar and Andi Koisu Rivers, locals told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The nearest dwelling settlement is Gimry; therefore, there is a lot of equipment near the village. They are shooting from helicopters and other machines. The shelled area is not forested – it is a lowland, mostly with small farms; locals use it as pastures," an Untsukul villager said on condition of anonymity.

A Gimry villager Asiyat K. told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that currently it is relatively calm in the village.

"They're shooting quite close – it's very audible. There's a roar the whole day. Sometimes communication is absent; it's very difficult to call anywhere. But in general, everything is calm; militaries did not enter the village," said Asiyat.
