Turkish police detain Azerbaijani who tried to join IS

A citizen of Azerbaijan was detained at the airport of Ankara, from where he planned to go to Syria and join the grouping named "Islamic State" (IS).

Policemen detained Bakir Galibov, 49, on August 12. He arrived in Ankara from Azerbaijan in the evening on August 11. After law enforcers received information that he was going to join the IS (earlier – the ISIL – Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) in Syria, he was detained.

According to the Turkish newspaper Hurriet, Galibov had 17 bullet-proof vests and medicines with him.

The Turkish authorities intend to deport the Azerbaijani after all the necessary formalities.

During the first half of 2015, the Turkish authorities detained five Azerbaijanis, who tried to get into Syria and join the IS, treated in Russia as a terrorist organization, reports the website of the TV channel "Vesti.ru".
