Villagers of Korkmaskala report violent dispersal of protest

On August 10, residents of the village of Korkmaskala blocked a highway in Dagestan in protest against the decision to arrest the head of their village Rustam Akaev, suspected of a robbery. Armed power agents arrived at the venue and began beating the protesters.

"It was not an organized action – just people were indignant and spontaneously went to the highway. There were about 150 of them; maybe more people could come, but policemen blocked all the approaches to the highway," one of local residents told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on conditions of anonymity today. "They acted rather rudely – some people have head cuts and bruises; women were just thrown away."

On August 10, a video of the dispersal of the protest action in Korkmaskala was posted on the YouTube. It is seen how masked men with metal shields and truncheons rushed into the crowd of locals and began pushing and beating up villagers, especially young people, since some of them tried to resist. At some moment shooting was heard; and frightened villagers covered their heads.
