Gaikuev's relatives decide not to complain about torture
Relatives of Magomed Gaikuev, a resident of the village of Andi in Dagestan, who returned home after a week in detention, find any attempts to turn to law enforcement bodies with complaints about his torture senseless. They believe they will achieve nothing with such applications, Magomed Magomedov, Gaikuev's cousin, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported referring to relatives that the 33-year-old Magomed Gaikuev disappeared on August 2 on the Chechen-Dagestani administrative border. On August 9, Gaikuev returned home and told his relatives that he had been detained by power agents in masks, who tortured him with electric current.
Incidents similar to what happened with Magomed Gaikuev occur regularly in North-Caucasian republics, Magomed Shamilov, the chairman of the Independent Trade Union of Interior and Prosecutor's Office Employees, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Power agents – both local and federal ones – detain completely innocent guys, torture them with electricity, trying to knock out confessions in this brutal way," he said.
