Prosecutor demands 11 and 9 years of liberty deprivation for Leyla and Arif Yunus

In Azerbaijan, the state prosecutor has suggested to find the rights defender Leyla Yunus and her husband Arif Yunus guilty on all points of the indictment and sentenced them to 11 and 9 years in prison, respectively, said Shokhrat Allakhmanov, the defendants' advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Arif Yunus and his wife Leyla Yunus, Director of the Institute of Peace and Democracy (IPD), are accused of economic crimes and treason.

Let us remind you that the Yunus spouses refuse to plead guilty; while the persecution of them is exposed to severe criticism of international community and human rights organizations. The "Amnesty International" has recognized Leyla and Arif Yunus as "prisoners of conscience"; and Azerbaijani rights defenders put them on the list of political prisoners.

Shokhrat Allakhmanov told reporters about the demand of the state prosecutor at 12:30 a.m. However, he did not say anything about the other details of the court session and about the health status of Arif Yunus, who again fainted in the courtroom, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
