Supporters of Avetisyan discuss expansion of actions in Armenia

The number of residents of Armenia ready to take part in protest actions in support of retired colonel Volodya Avetisyan has reached 200. As reported by Gagik Sarukhanyan, the organizer of the picket in support of Avetisyan in Yerevan, it is not excluded that the action will continue in the regions of the country.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since July 25, Freedom Square in Yerevan has been hosting an endless sit-in picket in support of Volodya Avetisyan and all political prisoners of Armenia. On July 27, protesters began drawing up a list of supporters of the veteran of the Karabakh War, ready to start new protest actions.

Volodya Avetisyan, a participant of protest actions of Karabakh War veterans, was detained on September 20, 2013. On July 17, 2014, the first instance court found him guilty of a fraud and sentenced to six years in prison and a fine.

According to Gagik Sarukhanyan, who is also the director of the Fund "Law and Assistance", the list of supporters of Volodya Avetisyan, ready to start new protests, already contains about 200 persons.

Mr Sarukhanyan has also noted that every day in Freedom Square they are discussing a plan of further actions with supporters of Volodya Avetisyan.

"There is a proposal to hold pickets in the regions. There are plenty of ideas and suggestions, but at the moment we don't want to disclose them, not to give a chance to the authorities to prevent them," Gagik Sarukhanyan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
