NAC states that militants blocked in Nalchik prepared terror acts

The militants who had barricaded themselves in an apartment building in Nalchik, planned to commit resonant terror acts in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), said the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today at 3:00 a.m. Moscow time the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced in a part of Nalchik. A law enforcement source said that some five or six suspected militants were killed during the CTO.

"In the near future, these bandits planned to commit resonant terror acts in the territory of the KBR," the RIA "Novosti" quoted the NAC's statement at 11:56 a.m. Moscow time.

According to the NAC, the blocked "militants are involved in the activities of one of international terrorist organizations."

"When offered to lay down arms and surrender, the bandits opened a fierce fire, threw a grenade and tried to break through the cordon. There are no casualties among power agents and no victims among civilians," said the NAC.
