Marchers in Tbilisi protest against authorities' ecological policy

A march against the ongoing Georgia's ecological policy was held in Tbilisi. According to organizers, the action was attended by over 100 people.

The events under the slogan "Mother-Nature Is Calling!" was organized by the non-governmental organization (NGO) "Green Fist", which was supported by other NGOs and movements, such as the "Trade Unions of Georgia", "Vegan Georgia" and the "Committee for Sakdrisi Preservation".

The population should learn from earlier mistakes. Over many years, Georgia was developing its resources without incurring environmental liability and without the protection of social principles, Levan Lortkipanidze, an activist of the "Green Fist", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, it is necessary to draw attention to the fact that Georgia, apart from violating environmental rights, is also breaking labour rights.

"The railways, one of the richest state-owned structures of Georgia, are an example, where employees are in poor working conditions, and where trainees' work is used free of charge. And how terrible are working conditions of miners!" he said.

In his turn, Nikoloz Tsikaridze, another activist of the "Green Fist", has noted that in Georgia, extracting companies work without any ecological examinations.

The state has won the case involving the destruction of the historic mine Sakdrisi, said Salome Chanturidze, an arts critic.
