Sochi authorities decide to resettle residents of village most affected by flooding

15 families residing in the village of Kepsha of Sochi will be resettled in other localities. Over the past six months, Kepsha villagers were evacuated seven times because of introduction of emergency regime.

On June 25, there was a strong flood in Sochi, as a result of which hundreds of houses were flooded. Kepsha is the village of Sochi mostly affected by the floods.

At the meeting held on July 9, the Public City Council made a decision to resettle residents of the Kepsha village.

"At present, about 15 families live there. This decision is supported at all levels. Therefore, we believe that during next several months, this decision will be implemented step by step," stated Djambulat Khatuov, the first deputy head of the Krasnodar Territory, as quoted by the official website of the Sochi administration.

According to Djambulat Khatuov, over the past six months, a regime of emergency was introduced in the village of Kepsha seven times, and as a result, all the villagers were evacuated. Apart from periodic flood threats because of the proximity of the river, the village faces threats of landslides and mudflows, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
