Armenian policemen suspect protesters of preparing provocations
A group of protesters in Bagramyan Avenue in Yerevan is preparing provocations in order to "escalate the situation," said a source from the Police of Armenia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that protest actions against the decision to raise the electricity tariff are being held in Armenia since June 19. The sit-in strike in Bagramyan Avenue continues. According to coordinators, there were more than 100 protesters in the avenue.
The police have operative data about a prepared provocation, said Ashot Agaronyan the head of the information department of the Police of Armenia.
"Demonstrators don't like that the police is rather passive and don't interfere with the protest action; therefore they want to make the situation red-hot," said Agaronyan. He believes that protesters want to set up tents in Bagramyan Avenue, and urged them "not to yield to provocations in order not to have complications."
According to David Sanasaryan, one of the coordinators, they plan to suggest the protesters to discuss further steps.
