Georgia: three prisoners self-mutilate in protest

Doctors of the Tbilisi Medical Centre have helped three inmates, who injured themselves in protest against the refusal to transfer them to another prison.

The prisoners' action occurred in Tbilisi Prison No. 7. The victims were taken to the Medical Centre named "Lancet" with bodily injuries. The status of all the patients is stable, the Ministry of Corrections and Probation of Georgia has reported.

As of June 26, two of them returned to prison; and the third was still in hospital, waiting for the documents for discharge, the "Sputnik" writes with reference to the above Ministry.

Because of loss of blood, this third patient has acute anaemia, doctors of the medical centre said, in their turn. He was taken to hospital in the morning on June 26 in the state of shock with a wound in the shoulder, the "InterPressNews" reports with reference to the head of intensive care unit and the chief physician of the "Lancet".

So far, there are no comments from the victims themselves or activists of public organizations regarding protests in Prison No. 7.
