Advocate states beating of detainees in Khasavyurt

In one of the Khasavyurt facilities, where detainees are kept, a mass beating of people was committed, said the advocate Sapiyat Magomedova. She made an appeal on this issue, but supervisory authorities are doing nothing.

The incident occurred on June 24. Sapiyat Magomedova, who is defending Shamil Antaev, one of those beaten up, learned about it from his father.

"My client told me that some unidentified masked men came into all the cells and beat up everybody there without any explanations. My client Antaev has multiple bruises and haematomas on his body; there is a probability of contusions," Sapiyat Magomedova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

She added that the prosecutor who oversees the places of detention refused to receive her oral complaint about the beatings. "I called to his mobile phone, but he asked me to address him in writing; only after that a consideration will take place. Although, according to the law, he must take my oral statement about a committed crime," said Magomedova.

The official from the prosecutor's office was inaccessible for comments; the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent could not reach him by phone.
