Fifteen persons continue sit-in strike in Gyumri

On June 24 in Gyumri, about 30 persons spent the night in Theatre Square in protest against the electricity tariff increase.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 23, the police dispersed the protest action in Gyumri against the increase in electricity tariffs. 12 persons were brought to the police and then released on recognizance not to leave. In the evening, about 50 persons have declared a sit-in strike in Theatre Square of Gyumri.

Karen Petrosyan, one of the protesters, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the sit-in strike in Gyumri passes calmly; and the police do not interfere with the peaceful course of events.

"Now, 15 persons continue the sit-in strike in Theatre Square; and throughout the day people come to express their solidarity," he said.

It should be noted here that on June 24, activists in the cities of Vanadzor, Sisian and Ashtarak announced a start of their sit-in strikes against electricity tariff growth. Also, protests were organized in Spitak, Abovyan and Kapan.
