Water decontamination station launched on one water main in Alagir

In North Ossetia, the commissioning of over of a water disinfection station constructed on the Gusarin water main – one of the three sources of drinking water in the city of Alagir.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a mass poisoning occurred in the North-Ossetian city of Alagir. According to preliminary data, it was caused by the infection that got into the water supply system. As of June 17, in total, 1070 people had applied for medical help.

On June 17, the new disinfection station on the Gusarin water main underwent several levels of testing; and starting today it should work at full capacity. During the tests, experts checked the reliability of the system, in order to avoid any penetration of hazardous substances into the water, said the spokesman of the Republic's Ministry of Construction, Energy and Housing and Public Utilities, which is entrusted with the reconstruction of the water supply system in Alagir.

Sergey Bondarenko, the head of the enterprise that designed the unit, has noted that similar installations are currently in operation on water supplies of Krasnodar and Stavropol. The Gusarin water main supplies water not only to Alagir, but also to seven district villages located on the plain. These dwelling settlements have more than eight thousand residents; and none of them suffered from the use of drinking water.
