All the victims are alleged members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) operating in the territory of Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On June 1, at about 00:30 a.m., Khasavyurt three criminals robbed a bookmaker's office. They beat up a 31-year-old employee of the office and at gunpoint took possession of the money. The police was informed by an eyewitness. When an outfit of the patrol-and-post service arrived at the scene, the alleged robbers opened fire at the policemen and tried to escape in a car. The policemen opened a response fire and shot dead one of the attackers and wounded the second one. Nobody of the law enforcers was hurt. The casualty was pre-identified as Khasan Khaibulaev, 31, a resident of Khasavyurt.

The second probable participant of the shootout, a 29-year-old resident of the Khasavyurt District, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound of his leg. The police are taking steps to detain the alleged third participant of the shootout, a 30-year-old resident of the Khasavyurt District.

The main versions of the attack on the bookmaker's office are a robbery, an attempt to repay a debt or extortion with the aim to finance the armed underground, said a Dagestani law enforcement source.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On June 11, the Suleiman-Stalsky District of Dagestan was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime; power agents are searching for militants.

As a result of their personal inspection and searches conducted in their houses, policemen confiscated a large number of automatic firearms, ammunition, narcotic and psychotropic drugs. In the course of interrogations, the detainees have already pled guilty of participating in an organized criminal grouping.
