Askandarov's advocate complains to ICRF about Dagestani investigators
An advocate of Kurban Askandarov, an advocate of the Deputy Imam of one of the mosques of Makhachkala, has filed a complaint to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF). In his complaint, the advocate claims that investigators have violated his client's rights.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 27, Kurban Askandarov, the Deputy Imam of the mosque located in Kotrov Street, was detained on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons. On June 1, his detention in custody was extended for one month. On June 11, the Supreme Court considered the complaint filed by advocates and left the suspect in custody.
According to the advocate, Kurban Askandarov is being illegally kept in custody for more than one week (since his formal arrest of May 29). Rashid Jafarov, another advocate of Kurban Askandarov, also believes that his client "is still being illegally detained at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 1 in Makhachkala."
According to Rashid Jafarov, on June 8, Kurban Askandarov "was to be immediately released, since no formal charges had been brought against him. Kurban Askandarov is still in the status of the suspect."
As of June 17, no formal charge has been filed against Kurban Askandarov, a source in the Soviet ROVD (District Interior Division) of Makhachkala reports.
