Official death toll of flooding in Georgia is 15
In central Tbilisi, in "Mziuri" Park, a dead body was found near the zoo; according to preliminary data, it was one of the rescuers. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has officially confirmed 15 casualties.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on June 14, a heavy rain resulted in flooding several streets and houses, and destruction of buildings and the city infrastructure. According to the Georgian Ministry of Public Health, 37 people were injured. The officially confirmed number of casualties was 14.
The Georgian authorities asked EU countries for financial and expert help in eliminating the aftermath of the flooding.
In the afternoon on June 15, the body of another victim was found. He was dressed in the rescuer's uniform; therefore, according to preliminary information, he perished at performance of his duties, the RIA "Novosti" reports with reference to the Georgian TV Company "Imedi".
The "Interfax" adds with reference to the Board of Crisis Management under the Government of Georgia, that 11 citizens of Tbilisi are still regarded as missing since the night of the flooding.
