Prosecutors reveal violations in boarding school in Zayukovo
Boarding School No. 1, located in the village of Zayukovo, has no permanent water supply and a broken fire alarm system, said the Prosecutor's Office of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR). The inspection of the boarding school was conducted on the demand of activists of the Movement "Republic is Our Common Cause".
Information about the violations revealed in the boarding school arrived to the SMS-service to the "Caucasian Knot" on June 15. "Under request of activists, the Prosecutor's Office of the KBR conducted an inspection of the correctional boarding school in Zayukovo and revealed appalling conditions of children's life," wrote the author of the SMS-message.
The above boarding school has 124 children diagnosed "mental retardation", the Ministry of Education and Sciences of the KBR reports.
In May, the school in Zayukovo was visited by a group of volunteers from the "Republic is Our Common Cause". "What we saw was below our worst expectations. The children's conditions are unacceptable – they have no conditions for personal hygiene... Their residential blocks have no water supply. Children are allowed to use only the outdoor toilet; we saw poor sanitation and absence of doors and windows," said the letter of activists posted on the portal of the government of the KBR.
The school also lacks medicines and medical care; and children's nutrition fails to meet what is declared in the menu, activists assert.
