Prosecutor's Office demands to bring head of Alagir District to responsibility

At night of June 9, in North Ossetia, people with symptoms of poisoning began to arrive en masse in the Alagir hospitals. They were diagnosed as infected with norovirus and dysentery pathogens. According to the preliminary information, the poisoning was caused by infection, which got to the city water pipeline. According to the information released by the Ministry of Health of North Ossetia at 4:00 p.m. on June 10, 257 people poisoned in Alagir were hospitalized in medical and preventive treatment facilities.

During the inspection held to detect causes of mass poisoning in the town of Alagir, the Prosecutor's Office of North Ossetia has revealed numerous violations of the sanitary and epidemiological laws.

The Prosecutor's Office has revealed that the municipal unitary enterprise (MUE) "Alagirkommunresursy" fails to carry out the production control over the quality of drinking water; that persons engaged in disinfection activities have not been properly trained and certified; and that sanitary protection zones of the water intake, which supplies the town of Alagir with drinking water, are not defined. The results of the tests of drinking water are unsatisfactory.

The results of the inspection carried out by the Prosecutor's Office have been sent to the investigating authorities to consider the issue concerning institution of a criminal case against Ruslan Khadartsev, the head of the administration of the local government of the Alagir District, and Vyacheslav Pliev, the Director of the MUE "Alagirkommunresursy".
