Films about Chechnya and Kalmykia presented in "Kinotavr" film contest
The 26th International Film Festival "Kinotavr" runs in Sochi starting from June 7. Fourteen films are presented to the main contest of the film festival, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. A number of the films presented to the jury will include films devoted to Chechnya and Kalmykia.
One of the contest films depicts the problems of the Caucasus region and the terrorism of Islam followers. The film "No comment" directed by debutant Artyom Temnikov studies reasons allowing militants to recruit young people in European countries for participation in combat actions at different "hot spots", including in Chechnya. The film describes the story of a German guy, who fell under the influence of such recruiters and found himself in Chechnya. The film is based on real events, video records shot by special force fighters, and seized video records found after a fight in a dugout not far from a Chechen village.
Besides, the "Kinotavr" contest also includes the film "The Seagulls" directed by Ella Manzheeva of Kalmykia. The film plot takes place in one of the cities of Kalmykia. In this February, the film "The Seagulls" was presented to the parallel programme of the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival. The main role in the film was performed by fashion model Evgeniya Mandjieva, a native of Kalmykia.
