Arrest of Deputy Imam of Makhachkala mosque challenged at court
The defence of Kurban Askandarov, the Deputy Imam of a mosque in Makhachkala, arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons, has filed an appeal against the decision on the defendant's arrest.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 27, Kurban Askandarov, the Deputy Imam of the mosque located in Kotrov Street in Makhachkala, was detained on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons. On May 29, the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala granted the investigators' motion to arrest Kurban Askandarov for 72 hours, and on June 1, the court left Kurban Askandarov in custody for one more month.
On June 5, the defence filed an appeal against the decision to take Kurban Askandarov in custody. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Ruslan Chupanov, an advocate of the Deputy Imam. According to him, the complaint will be considered by the Supreme Court of Dagestan. The advocate has noted that no official charges have been yet filed against his client.
