HRC to inform Putin about Kalyapin's position on attack on rights defenders in Chechnya
The Human Rights Council (HRC) under the President of Russia has instructed Igor Kalyapin, the head of the Committee against Torture (CaT), to prepare a report about the attack on the office and apartment of the Joint Mobile Group (JMG) in Grozny. The report will be handed over to Vladimir Putin.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 3 during a rally held at the office of rights defenders in Grozny, unidentified persons attacked the office of JMG, which used as a working place of the Committee against Torture (CaT) as well.
The HRC has decided to appeal to the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) with a request to take the inquiry into the attack on the JMG office under their control, said Igor Kalyapin, adding that he does not trust the Chechen police.
Within two days, rights defenders will gather materials to be sent to Putin through the HRC, through its head Mikhail Fedotov.
Let us note here that the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov and Timur Aliev, the Chairman of the HRC of Chechnya, did not respond to the invitation to today's sitting of the HRC. However, Aliev attended the sitting and gave explanations on many issues.
