Residents of Chechen village report on mass detentions

In the village of Zakan-Yurt, law enforcers detain young people, who on May 30 blocked the local police station. This was reported by local residents.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a conflict occurred between young people and law enforcers in the village of Zakan-Yurt of the Achkhoi-Martan District. According to the local residents, on May 28, law enforcers beat three young women in hijabs in front of the school building. Young men tried to protect the women, and as a result, a fight occurred. People involved in the fight were detained.

According to the local residents, on May 30, dozens of young people in cars blocked the police station, demanding to give out the people involved in the incident.

The Committee against Torture (CaT), which office in Grozny has been attacked today, is not engaged in the investigation into the situation in the village of Zakan-Yurt. This was reported by Oleg Khabibrakhmanov, a CaT staff member. According to Oleg Khabibrakhmanov, the CaT got no complaints from victims or their relatives.

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has stated that residents of the village of Zakan-Yurt "are indignant about misbehaviour of young people in the recent incident." "Today, at their request, I met relatives of the young men, who committed acts of provocation. The participants of the meeting have noted that all social problems in Zakan-Yurt are solved," Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on his page in Instagram.
