In Sochi, construction of high-rise building stopped after residents' protests

Residents of the residential district of Kudepsta in Sochi have blocked the road used by construction vehicles to reach the site of construction of a high-rise building. The local residents claim that the construction violates their right to healthy living environment. The developer has suspended the construction works, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Let us remind you that on March 28, in the residential district of Kudepsta in Sochi, about 200 people attended the authorized rally held against construction of new buildings to pack old residential districts.

On May 26, more than 100 residents of the residential district of Kudepsta came to the meeting with Sergey Obukhov, a State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), and his assistant Igor Vasiliev.

When the local residents were talking to the State Duma deputy, a concrete mixer truck entered the domestic territory and drove to the construction site. The local residents and the State Duma deputy have blocked the construction site. The police were called, and the works on the construction site were suspended.

Unidentified staff members of the Mayor's Office called the State Duma deputy on the phone and invited him to come to a meeting with Anatoly Rykov, the Deputy Mayor of Sochi.

"On May 26, I met Anatoly Rykov, and he promised to solve the problem in a constructive way," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Sergey Obukhov.

The State Duma deputy has also reported that he intends to appeal to the Prosecutor's Office to request the investigation and to verify the legitimacy of the issuance of building permits for construction of a high-rise building in Kudepsta, which, according to the State Duma deputy, can "impose ecological threat to people living in the residential district."
