Two policemen in Elista accused of beating detainee

In Kalmykia, two policemen are accused of abuse of power with the use of violence against a person detained for an administrative offence. The case has been brought to the court.

According to investigators, at night of August 9, 2014, the defendants unlawfully used physical violence against a person detained for an administrative offence and repeatedly kicked the detainee and hit him with fists and rubber truncheons.

As a result, the victim got closed traumatic brain injury, brain concussion, and multiple bruises and soft tissue injuries, the website of the Prosecutor's Office of Kalmykia reported on May 28.

Both policemen are charged with abuse of power with the use of violence and special means (Subparagraphs "a" and "b" of Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the Prosecutor's Office notes.

The above article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation stipulates the maximum punishment of 10 years of imprisonment.
