Direct election of Sochi Mayor abolished
The Sochi City Assembly has approved changes to the City Charter, according to which in 2019 the Mayor will be elected not by residents but local deputies. The new city boss will be named City Manager.
This was announced today by Anatoly Lutsyk, the chairman of the above City Assembly.
"A commission will be set up on the '50 to 50' principle – half from the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory, and half from the deputies' corps, which will review the nominees and bring at least two candidates to the consideration of the City Assembly, which will elect the head of Sochi," said Lutsyk as quoted by the "News Sochi".
He added that the innovation will be enforced in 2019, since the current Sochi Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov will stay in his post for other four years.
