Mosque-goers report on detention of deputy imam of Makhachkala mosque

Kurban Askandarov, the deputy imam of the mosque located in Kotrov Street in Makhachkala, has been detained. This was reported by mosque-goers. In their turn, officials from the Soviet ROVD (District Interior Division) of Makhachkala did not confirm the information about the detention.

Kurban Askandarov, the deputy imam of the Makhachkala mosque, was detained at night of May 27, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by one of the mosque-goers.

According to the source, the circumstances of the detention are unknown; however, "according to the information available, Kurban Askandarov is being kept at the Soviet ROVD of Makhachkala, and he is charged with illegal possession of weapons."

Staff members of the mosque have confirmed the information about the detention of the deputy imam. According to a staff member of the mosque, the reasons for the detention have not been reported yet.

It should be noted that the mosque is attended by followers of Salafi trend of Islam.
