In North Ossetia, Public Chamber concerned over pollution of Terek River in Vladikavkaz

Members of the Public Chamber of North Ossetia have appealed to the environmental agencies with a request to investigate the pollution of the Terek River in Vladikavkaz. They have also reported they are ready to hold hearings on the issue.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 20, residents of Vladikavkaz reported on the pollution of the Terek River. According to them, the river got the reddish hue because of lilac water discharged to it from a pipe not far from the Krasnogvardeisky Bridge. The "Rosprirodnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Nature Supervision) of North Ossetia sent its experts to the place, and they confirmed the fact of pollution and start to search for its source. During May, this is already at least the third case of pollution of the Terek River.

According to Professor Ivan Alborov, the Doctor of Technical Sciences, the Chairman of the Committee on Environment, Agriculture, and Food Security of the Public Chamber of North Ossetia, the Public Chamber will monitor the situation.

"We will not leave the situation unmonitored. We have sent formal requests to all the regulatory authorities. Then, we will likely to hold the hearings on this issue to avoid the repetition of such situations," Professor Ivan Alborov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
