Activist Mukhammad Magomedov detained in Makhachkala, eyewitnesses report

In Makhachkala, men in masks have detained Mukhammad Magomedov, one of the leaders of the public organization "League of the Just". This was reported by an activist's friend.

Today, according to the activist, Mukhammad Magomedov has been detained in Gadjiev Street near the Rector's Office of the Dagestani State University (DSU).

"A black Lada Priora with state license plates car of the Dagestan region (05) approached the building. Three men jumped out of it and attacked Mukhammad Magomedov. Two of them were in masks," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a friend of Mukhammad Magomedov, who witnessed the detention.

According to the witness, after "a brief resistance, Mukhammad Magomedov was placed in the car." The activist's friend has also added that the incident drew the attention of policemen on duty. However, the unidentified men "showed the policemen some IDs" and then "the policemen did not interfere with their actions."

The source has also emphasized that Mukhammad Magomedov arrived to the DSU to attend a seminar of the "School of Civic Leaders" (organized by the University of the Committee of Civil Initiatives).

Mukhammad Magomedov is one of the leaders of the public organization "League of the Just". In January 2014, he made an attempt to organize a rally against Caucasophobia in Moscow; however, the City Mayor's Office refused to sanction the notification for holding the event.

Besides, in January 2014, it became known that Mukhammad Magomedov was suspected of involvement in an extremist organization. According to the activist, the reason for the initiation of the criminal proceedings was his participation in the conference "Problems of Islam in Russia" held in 2012.
