Resident of Chechnya detained on suspicion of aiding and abetting militants

In Chechnya, law enforcers have detained a resident of the town of Urus-Martan on suspicion of aiding and abetting members of the armed underground.

According to the police, on May 20, in the course of operational activities, the law enforcers detained a 29-year-old resident of Urus-Martan at home.

During interrogation, the detainee has confessed that starting from spring of 2012, he used to provide members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) with a place to stay, and he supplied them with food, medicines, and bought vehicles for them, the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Chechnya reports.

According to the Chechen MIA, the issue of opening a criminal case for involvement in the IAF is under consideration. The sanctions under the appropriate article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation stipulates up to 10 years of imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported on other cases of detention of residents of Chechnya on suspicion of aiding and abetting members of the armed underground. Thus, on May 18, in Grozny, law enforcers detained a 27-year-old native of the village of Gvardeiskoe of the Nadterechny District.
