In Azerbaijan, "ReAl" leader Ilgar Mamedov placed into dungeon

Advocate has failed to visit Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the movement "Republican Alternative" (ReAl), who is serving his prison sentence in a penal colony in Azerbaijan. According to the advocate, the activist has been placed into dungeon for seven days.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ilgar Mamedov was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment on charge of organizing the mass riots in Ismayilli on January 23-24, 2013. Meanwhile, Ilgar Mamedov denied his guilt.

The "Amnesty International" (AI) has recognized Ilgar Mamedov a "prisoner of conscience". Ilgar Mamedov is on the updated list of political prisoners in Azerbaijan disseminated on May 8.

On May 14, Ilgar Mamedov was placed into dungeon of Colony No. 2, where he is serving his sentence, advocate Fuad Agaev reports.

"I was going to meet Ilgar Mamedov to discuss the defence tactics in the course of the consideration of his appeal at the Supreme Court. The trial is being unreasonably delayed since this January. However, I was told that yesterday Ilgar Mamedov was put into dungeon for seven days. Meanwhile, despite my insistent demands, I was not explained the reasons for the punishment of Ilgar Mamedov, and I was not allowed to meet my client," Fuad Agaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
