Baku opens European Games Park
Today, Baku has hosted the ceremony to open the European Games Park, where the First European Games in Azerbaijan are to hold competitions in four sports.
At the European Games Park, the opening ceremony was attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev and his spouse Mekhriban Alieva, the head of the organizing committee of the European Games, the website of the Azerbaijani President reports.
According to the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, the European Games Park is to host the competitions in water polo, 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball, and beach soccer.
The European Games Park is an open-air stadium built on the south-western outskirts of Baku near the National Flag Square and the Caspian Sea coast, and it includes three sports facilities, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official of the Baku European Games Operation Committee (BEGOC).
Let us remind you that on March 7, the main arena of competition - the Baku Olympic Stadium designed to seat 65,000 people - was put into operation. On April 20, the capital of Azerbaijan commissioned the new Palace of Water Sports and the reconstructed Baku Sports Arena, which would also host the competitions of the European Games.
